In an effort to promote “safe sleep” practices in our community, the staff of the Southwest SIDS Research Institute has put together “Baby’s Safe Sleep Kits.” Our kits contain informative Safe Sleep literature, door hangers, and baby sitter’s guides that detail the importance of creating a safe sleep environment for a newborn baby. Because the use of pacifiers has been associated with risk reduction, a pacifier is also included. The kits also contain a onesie, informing caretakers about the importance of the ABC’s of safe sleep. Southwest SIDS Research Institute provides all Brazoria County newborn infants and their families with Safe Sleep kits free of charge.

The Voice Within: The Premonitions of Sudden Death in Children

This wonderful book illuminates the premonitions experienced by parents whose infants have died suddenly and unexpectedly. Each of the authors brings a unique perspective, one being the parent of an infant who died of SIDS long before it was defined and who has brought understanding and comfort to untold thousands of other families so stricken. The others are proven investigators in the field. It is clear from their analyses that SIDS parents experience premonitions of doom nearly ten times more often than parents whose babies do not die. Clearly this is a signal for continued intensive study of the phenomenon.
